Holy Orders

In the sacrament of Holy Orders, a man is ordained a priest, deacon, or bishop.

Priesthood

In the Sacrament of Holy Orders, or Ordination, the priest being ordained vows to lead other Catholics by bringing them the sacraments (especially the Eucharist), by proclaiming the Gospel, and by providing other means to holiness.

Deaconate

A permanent deacon is a man (can be married) who is ordained to a ministry of service of Charity, Word, and Liturgy.

A transitional deacon is a man who is ordained to the ministry of pastoral service for the year prior to his ordination to the priesthood.
